I’ve heard that an aborigine
can navigate the outback on foot,
but
is lost in an automobile.

Our rate of travel
ruins their rhythm
of perception.

My attention span collapses under 50 miles per hour.
I burn money to keep my wheels turning
faster faster
in our race around the loop
        tightening like a noose.

Why don’t we step out?
We can take a walk.
Along the way,
we’ll share our dreams.
